Millions of Stars

Whilst working on a version of Millions of Cats by Wanda Gág we kept getting reminded of Carl Sagan’s many mentions of “millions and billions” of stars in his 1980 Cosmos series, we’re big fans. So whether or not it makes sense, we decided to make this epic space themed video version and put it out for free.

You may zone out to it, fall asleep to it, get your children and cats to sleep with it, we hope you enjoy it.

A slightly more lively version is also in production and will soon be available at the normal audiobook outlets.

The Video

It’s built mostly in Unity using a forced perspective technique. Our algorithm places stars in space at various distances from the viewer that align into cats when the camera is in certain positions along its path

It’s easy to imagine that the stars in a single constellation are all about the same distance away, but some will be closer and some much further away. They line up just so from a single point of view. Orion is only Orion from this spot right here.
